Obtain the expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor with a dielectric medium between its plates.
A charge of 6 μC is given to a hollow metallic sphere of radius 0.2 m. Find the potential at (i) the surface and (ii) the centre of the sphere.
A charge + Q is placed on a thin conducting spherical shell of radius R. Use Gauss's theorem to derive an expression for the electric field at a point lying (i) inside and (ii) outside the shell.
Show that the electric field for same charge density (σ) is twice in case of a conducting plate or surface than in a nonconducting sheet.
A dielectric slab of dielectric constant 'K' and thickness 't' is inserted between plates of a parallel plate capacitor of plate separation d and plate area A. Obtain an expression for its capacitance.
A capacitor is a system of two conductors separated by an insulator. The two conductors have equal and opposite charges with a potential difference between them. The capacitance of a capacitor depends on the geometrical configuration (shape, size and separation) of the system and also on the nature of the insulator separating the two conductors. They are used to store charges. Like resistors, capacitors can be arranged in series or parallel or a combination of both to obtain desired value of capacitance.
